Most residents of the region should have common knowledge of the small outpost of Traveler's Gorge. It serves as a temporary resting place for merchants passing through the Dactyl Mountains on their way to, or from, the southern regions. It consists of a few humble prefab shelters, providing a safe place to settle in for the night. Given its location, those traveling on foot or by ground transportation are tasked with either passing through the settlement, or traveling far out of their way to bypass the massive gorge. In recent years, the Gorge has been under the control of the Children of Aite, a loose group of self proclaimed freedom fighters. Prior to their occupation, a group of bandits under the leadership of a man named Santiago Delgado called the Gorge home. The bandits used the Gorge's prime location as a way of strong arming traveling merchants into paying for safe passage, causing many merchants to either invest in other methods of travel, or change their routes. The Children of Aite have worked hard on rebuilding the Gorge's reputation by reaching out to local homesteads and farming communities who once relied on the Gorge to safely transport their goods to population centers on either side of the Dactyls.
Geography
Traveler's Gorge is located in the southern mouth of a pass that slices through the Dactyl Mountains.

History
Traveler's Gorge is a small outpost that serves as a rest stop for those traveling by ground through the Dactyl Mountains. Located south of Freedom Falls, Traveler's Gorge is tucked into the southern mouth of one of many mountain passes through the Dactyls.

There's no concrete info regarding how the old outpost came to be. The oldest of the Gorge's infrastructure- such as the water pump that taps into a subterranean river- look to be of asari make, leading many to believe that the small outpost was originally put there by an asari.

A large statue that stands around 20 feet tall near the inner gate depicting an asari in some sort of ceremonial attire supports the theory of asari beginnings, though whether the statue is supposed to be the original founder of Traveler's Gorge, or the Goddess Athame, is another aspect that's often debated. Many years of harsh seasons, as well as some intentional damage (Including the removal of the statue's hand and head, which now lays at the feet of the statue, little more than a weather-worn ball of stone) makes it difficult to know for sure.

Currently, most of the structures occupying Traveler's Gorge are of human design. A few humble prefabs buckling against the wind. But the occasional patchwork using parts of older structures hints at a time from before the outpost's architecture was so human dominated.

Traveler's Gorge has a bloody history of changing hands. The most recent entry into that storied history came as a result of a raid executed in the middle of the night by the Children of Aite in late 2183, led by Kirill Kozlov. Prior to Kozlov's attack on the outpost, the Gorge remained in the hands of a group of bandits led by a man named Santiago Delgado. Delgado had long used the Gorge's advantageous location to strong arm local merchants into paying for safe passage. Violent and unhinged, the Gorge fell out of favor under Delgado's lead. Kozlov has spent the better part of the past two years doing what he can to rebuilding trust and forge relationships with local settlements in the region in hope of shedding the outpost's old reputation of 'Deadman's Gorge'.
Most residents of the region should have common knowledge of the small outpost of Traveler's Gorge. It serves as a small resting place for merchants passing through the Dactyl Mountains on their way to, or from, the southern regions.

Jason is a human who, along with his wife Linda Vasquez, runs Redrock Agency.

Appearance
Light skinned male with short dark hair and blue eyes. 29 years old. Both of his arms have been replaced with cybernetic prosthetics after an incident in the field. The prosthetics are grey in color and unmistakably synthetic. They continue all the way to his chest where they're anchored into place.

History
Early Life
Jason came from a long line of military men. His mother died when he was five. His father was a soldier and made it clear to Jason early on that joining the Alliance wasn't an option, it was an honor that Jason needed to uphold. Unfortunately, Jason's father gave his life in the line of duty long before he had the chance to see his son enlist, leaving Jason's uncle to take him in.

Jason's uncle, Chris, wasn't prepared to take care of his brother's teenage son, but did the best that he could. The two didn't get along too well, mostly due to Chris' strict nature, but they managed to coexist for the few years that passed until Jason was old enough to enlist with the Alliance, in no small part due to the fact that Chris' deployments made it so that he wasn't home much.

Once he joined the Alliance, Jason devoted everything to being the best soldier he could, knowing it would've been what his father wanted. The Alliance became his family. For years, he lived and breathed battle, and nothing was more important to him than the Alliance. That is, until he met someone that changed all that. A quarian named Mina.

The Death of Mina
Mina was opposed to Jason's military lifestyle, but accepted his desire to honor his father's legacy. They worked around his frequent deployments and made as much of a life together as they could. During a tour in the Attican Traverse, Jason recieved news of Mina's death. The only information anyone could provide was that she was shot in some back alley on Omega. Jason fell apart. Losing Mina was the final step on already-thin ice. Numerous trips to an Alliance shrink later and he was staring an honorable discharge in the face. Jason found himself rudderless. Without purpose. Overwhelmed with guilt over Mina which was only heightened by the disappointment he knew his father would see in him for turning his back on the Alliance, Jason nearly drowned in his own misery.

Eventually he was cast a life jacket in the form of an anonymous message providing further insight into Mina's death. It was vague, but accompanying it was a plastic card. Small and blue with a white insignia of the Blue Suns. It was all the motivation he needed. He immediately set out for Omega, leaving behind his old life and throwing away any chance he may have had at reviving his career with the Alliance.

Life on Omega
Jason remained on Omega for some time working as a mercenary as he attempted to uncover the truth behind what transpired to result in Mina's death. The card led him to a batarian enforcer for the Blue Suns by the name of Barkan Dosh'Ka. Cold, brutal, and efficient, Dosh'Ka was the sort of man the Blue Suns turned to when they couldn't leave a job to chance. He was well known for leaving his calling card at the scene with his victims when a statement needed to be made. A small, blue piece of plastic with a white insignia of the Blue Suns. It didn't add up for Jason. Mina would never have gotten mixed up with an organization like the Blue Suns. He needed to go right to the source. Dosh'Ka himself.

As was to be expected, being a washed up ex-soldier surviving on a couple of hours of sleep a night and a blood alcohol level that could probably kill a whale, Jason was little match for the hardened mercenary. But Dosh'Ka didn't kill Jason upon hearing why he was there. There was no credits to be made from it. In fact, he claimed to have no part in Mina's death (Not to mention no idea who she even was) and seemed every bit as interested in getting to the bottom of whoever was tarnishing his (not so good) reputation as Jason. It was an uneasy alliance, but it was the only lead Jason had.

Time passed and Jason made many friends and many enemies during his time on Omega, but he was finding himself no closer to figuring out what transpired on that night in 2183 to take Mina from his life. Caught in a loop of drinking, taking odd jobs to support himself, and hanging out at the local bar as he eagerly awaited any trickle of information Barkan sent his way, Jason's life was once again turned upside down when he signed on for a one-off security gig for an Exo-Geni expedition onboard the MSV Evening Star.

The Evening Star and the Security Chief
Onboard the Exo-Geni vessel is where Jason was introduced to Linda S. Vasquez. Chief of security and ex-Alliance. It's also where he was introduced to her right hook. The two were at odds almost immediately but had no choice but to co-exist.

What was supposed to be a research expedition turned out to be a thinly veiled attempt at digging into things best left untouched. Exo-Geni had uncovered old ruins housing an ancient artifact. By the time the Evening Star arrived, it was already too late. The Exo-Geni camp that awaited them was empty, leaving little trace of their whereabouts. With the artifact in tow, the Evening Star packed it up and began their journey home, but it wasn't long before the security team was shown the power of the artifact. Besieged on every side as crew and allies alike were slowly turned into mindless husks only seeking to do the artifact's bidding, Jason and the rest of the security team narrowly survived the harrowing ordeal. In no small part thanks to the heroics of Chief Vasquez.

A (Not So) Sobering Ordeal
Jason's experience with the Evening Star only pushed him deeper into the hole he had fallen into. Some things can't be unseen, and paired with the answers he was still desperately seeking regarding Mina, Jason found himself at an all-time low. He also found himself drunkenly in the arms of the troubled but well-meaning Linda Vasquez.

After a rocky introduction aboard the Evening Star, saying the two were an unlikely pair would be an understatement. But what started as a drunken affair grew into something more substantial than either of them had imagined. Despite being polar opposites in terms of personality, the two had more in common than either of them originally assumed. They were both deeply damaged ex-Alliance soldiers with more baggage than either of them could handle on their own. Their relationship slowly progressed from being a warm body to stave off each others' lonliness to a strong foundation in which the hardships of their past became the glue that bound them together.

<!--
After a job went south, leaving Vasquez hospitalized, Jason made the decision to give up on his quest for revenge, hoping to put the past behind him, and return to Earth where Vasquez would be able to get the proper care she needed. Disheartened, and with a whirlwind of new problems to deal with, he struggled to build some sense of normality with Linda, but quickly realized he was unable to adapt to everyday life.

Beaten, battered, and broken, the answers he had searched long and hard across the galaxy for, eventually found him. After struggling with the loss of Mina for so long, and the guilt of trying to move on and create a future with Linda, he was finally given the chance to get the closure he so desperately needed. But putting an end to the person responsible for Mina's death didn't bring him any satisfaction. Just more emptiness, and more guilt.

Once Vasquez recovered, the two rekindled their hopes of building Redrock Agency into a profitable business, and Aite presented the perfect opportunity to get things started. For Jason, it was a chance to fill that void inside of himself and drown out the heavy guilt weighing him down.
-->

Skills
Combat
Jason is a soldier first and foremost. Despite his often-lighthearted nature, when the going gets tough, he has no problem snapping right into action. He's trained in numerous standard weapon systems and has little trouble adapting to new weaponry on the fly, though he prefers to stick to his Revenant. Given his multiple tours operating in the Attican Traverse onboard an Alliance vessel, he's very at home when it comes to close quarters combat. Clearing ships, buildings and engaging at less than ideal ranges are all second nature to him.

Leah is a human biotic who has lived in Freedom Falls along with her father for a few years.

Appearance
Leah looks a bit out of place amongst her fellow mercenaries. Her small frame and short stature make her less-than-intimidating. She has long blonde hair which is usually pulled into a ponytail or braided to keep it out of her way. Her eyes are a piercing green. Her armor consists of a blue undersuit with light blue armor plating.

History
Early Life
Born to an ordinary dockworker (François Mercier) and his wife, a gardener (Inès Mercier), Leah was doomed to be anything but ordinary before she had even left the womb. On a fateful day in mid February, 2155, when a 6-month pregnant Inès came to visit her husband at work, she had no idea that it would irreversibly change not just her life, but also the life of her unborn daughter. When the drive of a small cargo freighter failed just off the coast of the port of Marseille where her husband worked, Inès was exposed to dust-form element zero. Aside from the crew of the ship there were, thankfully, no fatalities that day. Unfortunately for Inès, the ordeal didn't end there.

In May of 2155, Leah was born. She was in perfect health. The same, unfortunately, couldn't be said for Inès. The eezo exposure combined with her pregnancy left Inès weak. The cancer diagnosis that arrived shortly after wasn't much of a surprise to anyone. But Inès was a fighter. Determined to see her newborn daughter grow up, she fought tooth and nail. And she won. The eezo exposure, combined with more than a year of treatment, left her immune system ravaged and set her up for a difficult road ahead plagued with one illness after another.

The Alliance
'Freak' was the word of the time, not that much has changed since then. Biotics were poorly understood and, by the time Leah's abilities began to manifest, the tone that most often accompanied the word 'biotic' was one usually saved for derogatory terms. Inès and François did their research. Read the horror stories. Biotic children separated from their parents. Told it was for their own good. That their children were 'dangerous'. So they did what any loving parent would do given the alternative of potentially losing their daughter. They kept it to themselves.

Given the isolated nature of the event leading to Leah & Inès' eezo exposure, Leah was nearly 15 by the time the Alliance knock found their door. The financial setbacks brought on by Inès' condition meant their lives were far from luxurious. And the Alliance painted a much different picture of the experience than the extranet stories had. A promise that wherever Leah would go, her parents would most certainly be allowed to follow. Insight into what their daughter would be going through rather than the blackout of information that was so often mentioned in the horror stories they had read. So, with an offer of a full ride through school, training to control her biotic abilities, a future with the Alliance, and housing for her family, it didn't require much consideration from Leah. After every hospital visit with Inès- every double shift her father took just so they could make ends meet, Leah could finally give back to the people who had sacrificed so much for her.

It didn't come without its drawbacks, of course. The implant they soon put into the back of Leah's head was practically a permanent brand that announced her biotic abilities to the rest of the galaxy. It made life in the Alliance academy she attended a living hell. Despite doing her best to keep her implant hidden, it wasn't difficult for the other kids to put two-and-two together. Her parents didn't fit the military mould. They were blue collar. Not the sort you typically associate with an Alliance brat.

The name calling never really bothered Leah. She learned to ignore the insults muttered under breath as she passed others in the hall. Even the lonliness and isolation became a normal part of her life. But as distrust towards biotics grew amongst humans, it was only a matter of time before things escalated to violence and the Alliance was forced to move Leah and her family. It wasn't an uncommon situation for biotics. Once outed by their communities it was usually only a matter of time before they found themselves no longer welcome. While the Alliance may have accepted her with open arms, kids can often be cruel. A new community. A new academy. But little else changed. Her family was moved four times in less than four years. But Leah kept her head down and stayed to herself, focusing on her schoolwork and the sessions with her instructor as she slowly learned to control her abilities. It wasn't until she graduated from the academy that Leah first found acceptance among her peers.

A Place To Belong
No longer in a general academy, she was moved to an Alliance facility orbiting Titan specifically outfitted for biotic combat training. Still reeling over the failure of BAaT, the Alliance managed and maintained the program directly despite their need to hire outside help that was far more experienced in the field of biotics.

Outside of the scrutinizing eye of the general public and surrounded by other biotics her age, Leah flourished. With a regimented daily routine headed by a team of some of the brightest minds the Alliance had to offer in their respected fields assisted by experienced biotics recruited from other species as well as easy access to the hostile environmental training facility located on Titan, Leah spent the following two years honing her biotic abilities.

The six years that followed her training were spent as part of a small counter-terrorism unit comprised entirely of biotics who specialized in asset extraction and target elimination.

Carashan are a species of creatures located all throughout Aite. Plentiful in nature, they're a common foodsource for smaller communities that rely on hunting to add to their food supplies.

Characteristics
Carashan look almost feline-like. They can grow to intimidating sizes with males reaching sizes rivaling that of an Earth lion and females not far behind them. They have large, thick, majestic whiskers that protrude from their cheeks and, over time, grow to impressive lengths, often curling near the ends into spiral-like shapes. Their coats vary in color. Golden-brown, yellow, black. There have even been sightings of carashan possessing pale white coats. Their ears are rigid atop their wide heads and their tails typically reach a length nearly half the size of their body.

With long, sharp canines and powerful forelimbs- each ending with clawed paws- carashan have the potential to do serious damage if threatened.

Behavior
A pack animal, carashan are usually timid creatures and tend to steer clear of settlements. Their diet consists mostly of whatever they can catch. Carashan are solid hunters, able to track prey from great distances. They're patient and silent, typically working in packs of 4-8 to trap and corner their prey. They've also been known to use their numbers to bring down creatures larger than them when desperate, but prefer to hunt easier prey.

Attacks on people are rare, but do happen. Outside of defending themselves, most reported carashan attacks on people take place when the victim is already injured. Though there have been cases in which carashan have attacked perfectly healthy individuals without any provocation, these are most likely out of desperation when food is scarce.

Due to the growth taking place on Aite and the subsequent increase in locally raised food, carashan have become a problem for ranches in recent years. It's not uncommon for farming communities to turn to hunters to try and control the local carashan population. As one might expect, the growth has also led to a rise in carashan attacks which some worry will only get worse as Aite continues to attract settlers.
Myths
Durashka & Torish
Durashka and Torish are local myths in the region around Adrasteia. They're often credited as the reason when a hunter doesn't return home or a farmer goes missing. Parents tell their children tales of the pair of maneating carashan to keep them from straying too far outside of their community. Stories often describe them as being nearly as large as a skycar with teeth the size of a krogan's forearm and mangy coats the color of the night sky.

They're often credited as the reason when a local hunter doesn't return home or a farmer goes missing. Parents tell their children tales of the pair of maneating carashan to keep them from straying too far outside of their community. Stories often describe them as being nearly as large as a skycar with teeth the size of a krogan's forearm and mangy coats the color of the night sky.
As far as Aitian cities go, Adrasteia is among the largest. Widely considered the capital of Aite by those in the region, Adrasteia has long been seen as a place to avoid. With rampant crime, constant in-fighting that often spills over into neighboring settlements and long-running feuds between local gangs, few felt safe within the city limits.

A recent push by entrepreneur Bryan Cross, heir to the Torthus-Cross fortune, has lead to many changes in and around Adrasteia. The city has been split up into sectors, and zoned appropriately. The heart of the city, for example, has been renovated and converted entirely into a shopping district. The closest thing Adrasteia has seen to real honest-to-goodness civilized living in a long time.

The Adrasteia Enforcers, a cause for much controversy, act as a sort of 'law enforcement' around Adrasteia. Entirely controlled by Cross, they're more akin to a privatized army than any sort of police. Many Enforcers are ex-gang members or bandits that, at one time, took advantage of the citizens of Adrasteia. The Enforcer roll out has been slow, but it has definitely seen a decline in crime around the heart of the city. The outskirts, however, are every bit as dangerous as ever.
History
Surasa
Adrasteia was established in 2131 under the name 'Surasa'. Its primary function was to serve as permanent housing as well as managing the growth of food and other resources for the nearby research outpost, The Dome, without the need for off-world transport. Surasa was a large, expensive project that required many moving parts to get off the ground.

Experts in a wide range of different fields were called in to assist with the construction and maintenance of Surasa and, in what many called a bold move, the Council attempted to reach out to many who had fled to Terminus space, offering pardons to those who had the necessary skills to fill valued positions on the project. For many Terminus residents, this was their opportunity to wipe the slate clean and earn their way back into Council space. The project was a great success and the carrot dangled in front of the Terminus residents brought forth a large amount of passion from those seeking a second chance.

In 2133, during a brief period of unified leadership, Aite declared its independence. It was a decision that many of the inhabitants of Surasa strongly disagreed with. It quickly became clear that the Council had no intention of keeping good on their promises of pardons and support, and soon enough the people of Surasa were left to fend for themselves. For some the situation was easily remedied. They simply packed up their things and returned to Council space. But this wasn't an option afforded to everyone. Many were no longer welcome in Council space and, with the promise of their crimes being pardoned revoked, found themselves with no other option than to remain in Surasa after having invested so much into the project. Others, both those originating from the Terminus and Council space, having spent the previous two years setting down roots remained in Surasa simply out of a commitment to the settlement they helped to build.

A Ticking Time Bomb
Unfortunately, a self sustaining colony out in the Terminus Systems is a juicy target and, with the Council no longer backing the settlement, there were no official repercussions for pirates and raiders to fear from attacking Surasa. No 'gatekeeper' so to speak. The years that followed were a struggle. But through all of the attacks, the raids, and the lack of supplies, Surasa prevailed.

The upside of the Council's recruitment in the Terminus was that Surasa had no shortage of muscle. Many of the Terminus residents who signed on in the early days of the project did so in a security capacity- mercenaries and pirates alike looking to turn their lives around. One such mercenary was a disgraced huntress by the name of Aleenin Esiria. Esiria had just the right amount of charisma and skill to keep the settlement afloat and her training gave Surasa the edge it needed to survive those uncertain first few years.

It only takes so many failed raids before the juice just isn't worth the squeeze, and Surasa quickly gained a reputation for the brutality in which its residents defended their home. After surviving the first few years on their own, things quieted down and a small semblance of stability was achieved. Others in the Terminus flocked to Surasa and the settlement steadily grew. Without an outside threat to focus their energy on, however, it was only a matter of time before their aggressions faced inward. Old habits die hard and, once again, the residents of Surasa found themselves slipping back into their old ways.

While there was no 'official' government or chain of command in Surasa, many had naturally flocked to Esiria's side when she stepped up to head up the defense of Surasa during the early days. But now, with outside threats few and far between, many others in the settlement found themselves asking 'why not me' in answer to the question of who should lead the settlement. It was a slow burn, but in time lines were drawn in the sand, old rivalries dug up, and Surasa was poised to implode on itself.

By the time humanity arrived on the scene, Surasa had long since become a haven for outlaws, mercenaries, and other undesirables. Its growth over the years was steady and many people who had moved there with good intentions and a hope of starting an honest life found themselves trapped as the local gangs fought amongst one another for control of territory and other pettiness.

Adrasteia
In 2166 a bold businessman by the name of Thomas Whitaker with an interest in establishing a strip-mining operation on Aite (A planet that caught his eye, mostly, due to his fascination with Greek mythology)- and a penchant for dramatic flair- took notice of Surasa. Given its location and established infrastructure, he decided taking the settlement for himself would be the better move, financially, over establishing a new settlement to support his business endeavor. The perk of slave-labor was a cherry on top. Knowing Surasa's history, Whitaker arrived ready for a fight and got just that. After his bloody arrival, Whitaker delivered his famous speech:

'You have all hid here for far too long. Your little haven of debauchery. Away from prying eyes, free to do as you please. Protected by your precious Adrasteia. That changes today. I am your Cronus, and you all belong to me.'

Most of the inhabitants of Surasa had no idea what any of this meant, but it was a sentiment Whitaker repeated many times during his 37-hour reign. Whitaker had a high opinion of himself and assumed that Surasa would just bow down to him. Instead, it simply united many of the residents with a common enemy once more.

Esiria, who 35 years earlier had signed on as the head of security for Surasa, once again joined forces with old allies to drive Whitaker from her settlement. Most notable among them was a krogan- and longtime friend- by the name of Burd. Whitaker never broke character, shouting, 'I am your Cronus!' while demanding the krogan's submission even as Burd stomped up to him after a long, violent battle between Whitaker's men and the locals. It's a story many residents still talk about. Burd responded with, 'Buddy, I got no idea what any of your bullshit means. But I hope, for your sake, this Cronus guy is immortal.' before popping Whitaker's head like a pimple. A human resident had to explain the irony of the exchange to Burd later.

Whitaker was just one of many who had tried to take Surasa for himself over the years. His attempt had little impact on the dynamics of the settlement overall. However, one change did come from it. Surasa had been the name given to the settlement by the Council. The Council who had abandoned them, forgot about them, and failed to deliver on the promises they made. As one last middle finger to Whitaker's legacy, and a final break away from their Council roots, the settlement rid itself of the name Surasa and adopted Adrasteia, taunting any other would-be 'Cronus' to make their play.

Cross
Many tried and many failed to tame Adrasteia. Gangs rose and fell. Territory exchanged hands. Power shifted. But Adrasteia remained. It wasn't until 2184 when a man by the name of Bryan Cross, heir to the Torthus-Cross fortune, made an attempt to sieze control of Adrasteia that things began to change. Like many before him, Cross' early moves were that of blatant violence, setting loose an army of highly trained, expensive mercenaries he called 'The Enforcers'. An attempt at fighting fire with fire in a settlement known for their violent history. But unlike Whitaker or the failures that both preceded and followed him, Cross learned from his mistakes. He extended an olive branch to the people of Adrasteia. He offered purpose. A promise of change. He echoed many of the intentions the Council had when Surasa was first founded. A position among his Enforcers was offered to any who sided with him in his effort to clean up Adrasteia.

Many of the residents of Adrasteia were understandably wary of Cross' offer. But Cross was smart enough to know he didn't need to reach everyone. Only a select few. Many of the old-timers, such as Esiria, who had signed on in hope of doing some good or atoning for past mistakes took Cross up on his offer. Cross gave well known, respected, and feared Adrasteia residents prestigious positions amongst his 'military' and watched as the dominos began to topple. Slowly but surely, those with power began to drift to his cause and any who didn't were rapidly finding themselves outnumbered.

Aite
With the strength of the Adrasteia Enforcers growing and his strong financial backing, Cross has made great strides in turning Adrasteia into the respectable city he thought it could be. While his motivations remain hidden he turns his attention to the rest of Aite.
