Redrock Agency was approached by Rellis Darennon for a job to assault Kalus Security's headquarters. The reason given was that Kalus would end up being a danger to more than his men, as well as alleged shady activities. Redrock Agency succeeded with their job, inflicting minimal casualty upon Kalus' mercenaries, even if the turian commander was killed in action. They were paid 40,000 per commited mercenary.

It was not over yet, however, because a day later Rellis attempted to beat two birds with one stone by having Siveya attack Va'ynna while he would assassinate her immediately after. This failed, making Siveya miss the mark and fight off Rellis. After Rellis was chased off, Siveya explains her story and what she was doing, but admitted to not knowing why Va'ynna was chosen as a target, and the motivation for that remains unknown to this day. She speculated that it was a mere busywork order to keep her and Kalus separated.

The Pitch

Rellis Darennon made it clear very early that this was a mission of sensitive character, and that it was about single target elimination. Jason invited him to a meeting where he'd discuss the matter in detail.

Subject: Contract offer
From: Rellis Darennon
To: Redrock Agency contact address

I have observed your organization's presence on the extranet, and are willing to offer you a contract. I have a sensitive matter that I want taken care of, and I believe you are equipped to do so. Afraid I cannot provide any specific details here, but the nature of the contract is target-elimination with a potential opposition beyond the specific target.

Looking forward to working with you, and hope we can discuss the specifics of the contract soon.

Sincerely,
Rellis Darennon

The salarian showed up outside the Redrock Agency building as promised, and he was let into his office for the meeting. Before he could say anything, however, he made Jason sign an NDA. After that, he spoke more freely about the target.

Jason was worried about it, that they'd be taking down a turian for no better reason than the turian being on the wrong side of someone with a lot of credits. Rellis remained vague, but said that this turian was a danger to both his own and innocents. He also mentioned the payment they'd receive in the next breath. The job was then accepted.

Briefing & Travel

This was one of the first jobs Redrock had, and it snuck up on them before the new staff could be eased into their jobs. It was going to be a trial by fire, Jason said, but the team was ready for that. Victoria lacked equipment, but Jason agreed to front her the payment so that she could afford it.

Jason gave them all the information he had on the job, and let them know about payment. There wasn't enough information given beforehand to make a very detailed tactical plan. He let them know how much of the payment they'll receive, and what Redrock will take of it.

They met again at the spaceport a few days later, and that's when the rest of the employees also saw Rellis Darennon for the first time. There he was able to give them a lot more precise intel, and also let them know that he had disabled the VI watching their exterior cameras granting them cover for the next eight hours.

The shuttle trip there also went smoothly, and they had a chance to ask the salarian contact a few questions once it had set down in an abandoned dairy farm on the other side of a dense forest. He gave them some more inforrmation on Kalus himself, but did not have any pictures of him. He said he could compare a picture to confirm it, however, and said he would pay extra if they gathered additional intel while at the location.

Assault

The dense forest gave their landing cover, even if the trek through it to the AO took only a few minutes. Kalus's band of mercenaries had taken up residence in an old warehouse, one of the last surviving buildings in the war-ravaged colony.

Jason gave the order that Renala and Kim enter through the main entrance, while the rest of the group circle around to get ready at the garage. No resistance was meeting them yet, so it seems so far that their plan — and Rellis' hack of the cameras – was holding.

The groups got into position without a problem. The garage door was unlocked. The garage door was wide enough to let a kodiak squeeze through, but most important of all was that it was not locked. Closer inspection by Jason also revealed that there were multiple poeple inside that did not seem aware of the armed presense outside. Kim and Renala's door was not unlocked, but with a few sputters and glitches it too was green.

Renala and Kim were the first to enter the building, and faced no resistance. Jason's team then opened the garage and the commotion from that gave them cover to deal with the reinforcements headed there. Redrock tried to invoke a surrender from the group of mercenaries inside, but that was met with strong resistence even from those with weapons aimed their way. The krogan, Urret, died during this battle.

An unknown sniper threw a spanner in their plans by firing once at Victoria, pushing her back inside the garage with the others on that team. They subdued the remaining hostiles in the garage, but if they wer to be believed, that still left six remaining in the building. At least they were safe from the sniper for the time being.

The tables started to turn for a moment when the asari managed to block the intersection and drag Renala into a singularity. She tried to get a surrender out of Redrock by threatening to open fire on the floating asari, and she made good on her threat by firing bursts at her. Renala was hit, but Victoria pulled her to safety and managed to get her the first aid she needed.

The standoff continued for a while, until Kalus himself called the surrender over comms after hearing his team's report of the situation. The fight thus ended with one casualty on Kalus' side and one injury on Redrock's, but it could have gone a lot worse had it continued. Redrock restrained Kalus' team and left them under the watchful eye of of Renala, for the rest of the team still needed to go after their target.

The Sniper

The Redrock team discussed their next move against the sniper up in the former spaceport, and ended up with a plan where the bulk of them will push from the front while covering Kim's long way around. It resembled the tactic of their entrance, and this time too it appearead to work.

The sniper did give the group pushing towards him a good fight, and even landed a few hits from his high ground. They were pinned down, but their push was the distraction Kim needed to get around. Even when all their heads were down, the distraction held for long enough to afford Kim to get up to the roof with him.

She deployed an overload on the turian target, which disabled him long enough for Kim to notify the others of her findings. The others did not have time to get there to help Kim, leaving the two to fight a frantic pistol battle. Kim got shot in the shoulder, but the last bullet of her own clip ended up right between the turian's eyes.

After freeing one of the hostages, they make their way back to the LZ without further conflict. They picked up the sniper's rifle, a modified M-92 Mantis, and Jason promised to arrange for Kim Polner to train with it after she requested it.

They confirmed the target was eliminated when they met up with Darennon at the LZ, but he could not ascertain the value of the data yet. They parted ways at the Freedom Falls spaceport after a job well done. The mercenaries working for Kalus has not been seen since by any member of Redrock Agency.

Trivia

  • In the unused Eezo-plot that this is heavily based on, Rellis was and not part of the plot beyond the first event, let alone the central character he is now.
  • The name Urret is based on "Ørret", the Norwegian word for the European brown trout.
