Road's End

Road's End is a small settlement at the end of north-western road leading off from Freedom Falls. The small community is often referred to by the locals as Erantha, a name holding significance to the residents of Road's End, a memento to a brave departed that gave their life in the defense of the small community during the raid.

The commercial buildings in town aren't much to speak of, but they are sufficient in the day to day life. One of them is a general store with things from groceries to tools to a small selection of handguns and hunting rifles, the second is a mechanic workshop and the third is a human-owned pub that only holds open 3 days a week for the evening – and special occasions outside those times. As for housing, the small community consists of twelve houses, most of which are duplexes and quadruplexes, and a single two-story apartment building with fifteen apartments. There are also ongoing construction projects in the area to bring that number up.

While most of the residents there are from the three farmsteads or work in the production buildings, the area has now become attractive due to its distance from the central areas and the lower housing prices.

Road's End is within Freedom Falls territory, and it's security is thus also the responsiblity of the militia.

History

A sizeable portion of Freedom Falls's population live in the surrounding homesteads, making it natural that a few of them would go together in spite of the 'no neighbors' appeal of this sparsely populated world. In 2145, three homesteads – all asari-owned – got together and formed a company to better act on the emerging local and global food markets by sharing parts of the production between them. It didn't take much negotiation before the terms were approved by all three, neither undermining the other. It would benefit them all and mean a lower investment up-front, they believed, and a higher return in the long term.

By the end of 2147, the structures for meat and dairy production stood complete and a road had connected it and other homesteads along the way to the town Freedom Falls. While sky-cars never needed it, it was proven cost-effective in the long run to used wheeled transport for goods. To accommodate the workforce they needed for the construction, operation and maintenance of the shared buildings, homesteads started renting out buildings and rooms they had to spare, and soon new construction for the same purpose followed.

The namesake of this community, the road, was constructed early on in the process. They needed materials and somewhere to ship their goods via. This was before the town's sudden growth in the 60s and 70s, so they weren't imagining the local region as their main market as is the fact in the current time. It has also become a backbone for other farmsteads that has popped up after the primarily human expansion. This has also grown the company at the core of the community, and many of the farms along the road have a supply deals with them. The company, which before bore the name of the three farmsteads, is now simply called the Erantha Company to appear more inviting to indepdent suppliers.
