When in combat she usually wears a set of sleeveless black Ajax Armor with dark red plating along with a matching combat mask. On her left hand she has a fingerless glove. She usually wields an M-451 Firestorm along with an Executioner hand cannon. A combat knife can usually be found strapped to her leg and a pair of fuel tanks may or may not be present on the back of her armor.

Maria was born in the northern UNAS in 2146. The region she grew up in was a poor one, never having recovered fully from the Second American Civil War, and life was not made easier by the fact that her grandfather had been a part of the secessionist forces. While the discovery of the Prothean ruins on Mars and later the formation of the Systems Alliance promised a better future, this was not the case for Maria's family. At the age of 17 she had already spent a lot of time doing whatever it took to provide for her increasingly ill mother after the father's murder six years prior. In 2163 she signed up for the colonization of a remote Attican Traverse world in the hopes of finding a better life as well as well as earning enough money to provide for her mother.

While colony life certainly wasn't easy, it was a vast improvement over Earth, and Maria found happiness for the first time in her life. In 2166 she had married, but after a series of unusual incidents and odd mortalities in the small colony, it became clear things were not quite right. In 2172, Maria's daughter was abducted by the corporation that funded the colony, and the efforts of the couple to find an explanation, or at the very least justice, were quickly shut down by the Systems Alliance. After her husband died under mysterious circumstances shortly thereafter, Maria fled deep into Terminus Systems space, drawing on her past to survive and eventually earning a reputation as a skilled, if destructive gun-for-hire.
