Barrier Buster

A 'barrier buster' is a man-portable tactical laser meant for penetrating kinetic barriers. Due to their unwieldy nature, these specialized weapons are typically deployed either when assaulting shielded fortifications or when facing biotics capable of advanced barrier projection techniques. Their weight and charge-up time mean that they are typically fired from a tripod mount or with the help of a powered exoskeleton. Intense power requirements mean that these weapons chew through power cells fast - firing more than a handful of shots is generally impractical unless hooked up to a stationary power source.

As a true directed energy weapon, a barrier buster is capable of penetrating anything short of a full stasis field, making them ideal for taking out shield emitters or biotics from a distance, bypassing the need to either crack the barrier with overwhelming firepower or engage in close quarters.
