SunTech is a prominent human tech company primarily located on Earth.

History

SunTech was founded in 2135, one of many companies born out of the corpses of the old corporate giants following the widespread conflict and upheaval that marked the turn of the century. One of the biggest success stories of pre-contact 22nd century Earth, SunTech was founded by Gwan Sun, a brilliant innovator in the fields of virtual intelligence computing, neural interfaces and micro-fabrication. Initially focused on personal microcomputers and VI prototypes, SunTech's innovations quickly brought them some lucrative government contracts, even becoming part of the renewed push to colonize the solar system. It was, of course, the discoveries made on Mars that would alter the future of SunTech forever, just as it would for all of humanity.

What had up until now been a small, upcoming company spearheaded by a brilliant man soon became a force to be reckoned with as the discoveries from Mars, and, soon after, the galaxy beyond, continued to pour in, and all of Earth's brightest scrambled to make use of the wealth of new discoveries, and to adapt to the new paradigm brought on by the advent of FTL travel, and, of course, first contact. Many of the successors to the old giants, and some of the few ancients that remained, collapsed in this chaotic era. SunTech was one of those that adapted, and flourished, integrating new technologies and even innovating upon them even as humanity reeled and war raged on newly founded colonies. More government contracts, with the Chinese People's Federation and the fledgling Systems Alliance both, came during this period, as military researchers worked with the biggest innovators in the private sector to hastily analyze and implement alien technology in order to match their opponents.

In the post-war era, SunTech continued to flourish, by now well-established presence on Earth, developing VIs and other software as well as manufacturing omni-tools, cybernetics, robots and other hardware. Gwan Sun died in the late 2160s, but the company was taken over by his son, Sau Sun. While most would agree that he is not the technological genius that his father was, Sau is a shrewd business man, and with an extensive and capable workforce that carries on his father's legacy, Sau has taken SunTech to new heights, securing important contracts in network infrastructure, playing an important role in the effort to connect Earth to the galactic extranet and in shaping the omni-present nature of the online sphere in modern megacities. SunTech has been criticized for seemingly repeating the sins of the former tech giants of the 21st century, harvesting data for private and public actors alike. These accusations have only grown following SunTech's involvement in the great renovation of Guangzhou's security grid, and the fact that many CPF PubSec branches make extensive use of SunTech software and hardware, ranging from surveillance VIs to mechanized officers.
