Research Site Theta, known more commonly among the construction crew and researchers by it's colloquial name, "The Last Resort", is a heavily reinforced underground facility dug into the side of Mount Apocatastasis.

Description

The Last Resort is the pinnacle of the Syranis Foundation's purpose on Aite. One day, after cataloging as much of the doomed planet's flora and fauna as possible, Matriarch Syranis and a core of trusted volunteers will retreat to the Last Resort. The doors will seal, and hundreds of state of the art sensors and monitoring systems will record every moment of Litae's apocalyptic descent in an unprecedented scientific endeavour. A Quantum Entanglement Communicator will maintain direct contact with researchers on Thessia, and once the facility's structural integrity reaches critical levels, dozens of hardened data capsules will be launched for retrieval and analysis by the Foundation.

These lofty goals may still be distant, but the construction of the facility is well underway. Most of the excavation has been completed, and some of the infrastructure is already online, but much work remains, and construction has not yet started on the "stasis moat", an experimental mass effect suspension system that is meant to allow the Resort to weather extreme tectonic activity and gravitational shifts.

Outside the massive, reinforced metal doors, a temporary settlement is nestled against the mountainside. Prefab warehouses store supplies, machinery and materials, while a cluster of smaller prefabs house the construction workers, engineers and technicians. A separate prefab barrack houses the security team. The barracks can house a total of 12 in its 6 bunk beds, each of which has an attached footlocker. Showers and restrooms are housed in a larger prefab along with a mess hall. The perimeter of the work site is protected by a razor-wired chainlink fence, and the sky by a point-defense laser turret. While the remote location, mountainous terrain and secrecy of the project has so far combined to ward off potential threats, the Foundation has, due to the ramping up of construction, and impending increase in both supply caravans, and valuable resources on-site, expressed an interest in expanding these defenses with the contracting of dedicated security personnel via Redrock.

The Resort's only avenue of approach by ground is a wide gravel road carved into the side of the mountain, eventually descending into the river valley below. The surrounding nature is mountainous and snow-covered for much of the year, with boreal forests and a fast-flowing, high volume river that eventually joins the Epimedes in the Dagessa Wetlands.
