The Sacrarium

The Sacrarium was a vast underground cavern on the planet of Di Yu IV. The strangely uniform cave floor was covered in element zero-rich water, and contained in the center of the massive chamber was an ancient artifact - a strange, otherworldly orb enveloped by an unsettling mass of spindly metal arms. The Sacrarium, and the artifact it held, was discovered by an asari research team untold centuries ago. The team, lead by Matriarch Tharele, established a research base above the cave, studying the artifacts found below the surface. The asari soon found that an alien intelligence - one of vast power and intellect - somehow either resided in, or communicated through, the orb. While much was learned through communicating with this intelligence, Tharele realized the effect that the truths it revealed had on those that listened, and she initiated a facility-wide lockdown. Thus, those inside were lost to madness, becoming the first Children of the Revelator.

The Sacrarium was later rediscovered once humans colonized Di Yu IV, and a machine cult arose around the worship of the artifact within, the chamber itself becoming a sacred space visited only by the most trusted and exalted of the group. In the underground depths they petitioned the artifact for ancient insight and performed bizarre rituals as their minds crumbled under the weight of the artifact's knowledge. The shimmering waters of the Sacrarium is also where the next generation of Children were conceived.

After Redrock's attack on the Children of the Revelator, and the subsequent orbital bombardment of Di Yu IV by Cerberus, the Sacrarium lies empty and buried under rubble.
