Yan Sun
Yan Sun is a hacker from Hong Kong.
Appearance
Yan Sun is a fairly scrawny young woman with tan skin and medium-length black and blue hair styled in a sidecut. She usually wears blue or white tank tops along with slim-fitting black pants and either a black vest, or gray hoodie. Her most distinctive feature is her cybernetics. Unlike her naturally brown right eye, her left eye is blue, and artificial. When utilizing its augmented-reality functions the eye lights up in blue. Implanted in her left temple is a chip with a direct link to her brain. From this chip runs a series of transdermal circuitry implants that run the entire length of her left arm. Designed for both function and aesthetics, the implants follow an elaborate geometric pattern, and they light up in blue when in use. The further down her arm you go, the more synthetic it becomes, and the easier this is to tell - the lower arm is almost entirely mechanical on the interior, maintaining a layer of flesh and skin on the outside to preserve sensation and appearance. Inside is housed storage for omni-gel and a power cell among other things. Finally, her hand contains a state-of-the-art omni-tool implant, the microfabricator taking up a considerable portion of her palm in the form of a circular metal implant.
Background
Yan Sun was born to wealthy parents in Earth's Hong Kong, part of the Guangzhou megacity, the economic center of the Chinese People's Federation. She was spoiled when growing up, given anything she wanted and enrolled in the prestigious Hong Kong Institute of Science and Technology at a young age after an early graduation from Secondary School. In return her parents expected great things from her, success to equal their own. For most of her life she was happy to spend her time studying and living in luxury, caring little for anything beyond her own isolated little world. Her school, her tech and her family's tower. This all changed when she met Changying at age 16. Enthralled by the rebellious hacktivist and thief, she quickly got wrapped up in the activities of the older girl's hacktivist group, The Little Dragons. With this followed two things that would change her life forever - a sense of connection to the rest of the galaxy through contact with like-minded people on the extranet, and her first romantic relationship, with Changying herself.
As she neglected her studies, and became more and more elusive to her parents it was only a matter of time before they found out, and they approved neither of her involvement with the Little Dragons, nor of her relationship with Changying, and after a particularly nasty argument she found herself disowned, living in one of the poor districts with her girlfriend. Regardless of any regrets, and lost luxury, she was happy with her new life, as the two worked together to fight the corruption, oppression and poverty that is all too common in Guangzhou, like so many of Earth's sprawling megacities. This lasted for a few years, until an incident that irreversibly changed Yan Sun's view of Changying, and made her disillusioned with the work they were doing. She left Hong Kong, and Earth, not long after, heartbroken and aimless. After some time spent on the Citadel, experiencing the diversity of galactic culture firsthand, she decided to travel out to see more of the galaxy, with her own eyes now, rather than through the extranet. This was how she found herself on an expedition to a remote ice world, where she once again had an encounter that would change her life.
