Summary

Departure

Va'ynna tipped Gren off that Aylena was about to leave for her court case, leading him to intercept her at the spaceport where she was next to a small ship. She was in a tense conversation with her niece Enila until he approached, but that asari left without hearing a word from the krogan. There was a salarian there too, who was swift to take his leave with just a message to Aylena. The ship she hired was more the spaceship equivalent of a small yacht, but Aylena said she trusted the hardware that was underneath the layers of decadence.

Aylena explained that she had just six hours in Nos Astra before the case, believing that limited exposure was too brief for any attacks on her person by the defendants' company. Gren worried for her, as she was one of the very few people he considered friends, but she allayed his concerns and promised to the right the imbalance in their friendship upon her return.

She ended up leaving without him.

Hotel Attack

Aylena was wrong. She had booked a hotel room near the court's scheduled location to spend the time waiting for it, and she was attacked by a gunship that gunned her down from the living room window. NAPF did shoot the gunship down, but no signs of the pilot were found by the time they had secured the wreckage; though footage does match her appearance to one of the defendants: Esseria Illeni

The news article states that Janysa (Aylena) was brought to a hospital that wished to remain undisclosed for her safety considering that the pilot was still at large.

Va'ynna brought the article up when talking with Jason at the Miner's Respite, and he was frustrated that she had once again run off without warning Redrock. There was nothing they could do about it, other than writing her a stern message to her the same day, which Jason did.

Hospitalization

Aylena did reach out to Gren four days after the attack on the hotel room, giving him enough information to locate her on Illium. She had not yet gotten to answering Redrock's message at the time, however.

Gren showed up at the hospital in full combat gear, but that did not seem to faze the staff there much, perhaps supporting their claims about the high standard of their security staff. Aylena allowed him to keep his equipment, and he was led to her room. The asari was heavily bandaged and wired up to countless machines that Aylena admitted were doing most of the work in keeping her alive at this time. She did say she would be able to return to Aite soon at a reduced state, but that it would take a long time before she could get surgery to repair her legs fully.

Trouble & Opportuny

Aylena had been unconscious for most of the time Gren had been with her at the hospital, as the extensive treatment had put a great toll on her body. It was by luck that she was awake on the 28th of December when she received a call for help from Foyna and Oras. They had performed an investigation of their own against Aylena's advice and had gotten into trouble.

Priority number one was to make sure that Oras and Foyna were safely extracted, but this also presented an opportunity. If these mercenaries were working with Esseeria, then they might know where she is hiding. She stressed the importance of leaving Esseria alive but left the fate of the other hostile mercenaries in Gren's hands.

Gren took a sky-car taxi from the hospital to a taxi depot near the coordinate in the call for help. This took him to the lower reaches of Nos Astra, a thriving undercity built along the support structures of the glamour above. The shooting had already started, so the civilians were clearing out of the area.

Gren communicated with Foyna on approach, who briefly filled him in on the status. He headed to the alley right away, right past one of the hostiles who posed as a security guard watching the taxi depot. The turian and salarian at the alley trained their weapons on Gren once he spoke to them and opened fire once Gren instructed Foyna and Oras to take advantage of their split attention. The asari soon joined the fight with a surprise biotic attack.

The fight ended with the asari successfully fleeing. The salarian attempted to flee, as well, but was shot down despite his use of tactical cloak. The turian stood his ground until the bitter end, however. They were left without anyone to interrogate, but Oras was able to use the data on their omni-tool to deduce a likely location for a safe house.

They were right, and they found the apartment where the asari from earlier and Esseria were hiding out. They had a chance to prepare and had placed an anti-personnel mine at the entrance of the apartment but were surprised when it did little more than piss off the krogan battle master that had tripped it. Foyna helped with detaining the asari, while Oras was focused on keeping the building's security under his control.

They agreed to take Esseria to the nearest NAPF station, as Foyna feared leaving her behind would give her a chance to come to and escape before officers arrived at the scene. There was a bounty on her head, but Oras noted that they had not done the proper paperwork. This was also affirmed by the detective that met them outside the station, but she was eager to make any problems go away after confirming the captured asari's identity.

Aylena was not conscious by the time Gren returned to the hospital, and it wasn't until she came to the next time that he debriefed her. She was relieved to hear that Foyna and Oras were safe, and that Esseria Illeni was in NAPF's care.
