On the cold winter morning of October 22, 2185, Va'ynna did not show up for work. When she was half an hour late without answering calls, Aylena contacted Victoria to ask if Va'ynna was home. With nobody knowing where she went, Victoria's search began.

Retreading Her Path

Victoria started her search by calling Uvena Atana, who was currently busy meeting someone about renting an apartment. Uvena was equally surprised to hear Va'ynna was absent. Calling Va'ynna did not work, with the first call simply timing out without being picked up.

Va'ynna has a usual path to work that takes her along the wide the northern edge of the main commercial zone, and Victoria has walked her to work often enough to know it. That was the logical starting point for her search. There was nothing to see until Victoria passed a convenience store. Unbeknownst to her, she stepped on a piece of plastic just outside which later would turn out to be a piece of Va'ynna's omni-tool.

Before she could move on, she met an asari who was out to buy breakfast due to the Respite's kitchen being closed this morning. She did know who Va'ynna is, but regrettably had nothing that could help. The asari was willing to notify her if she saw her, but she did not offer to go out of her way to search for her.

After that, Victoria continued on her way to the Miner's Respite to check if Va'ynna has turned up yet. She met Aylena, who had no new information for her. Victoria was running out of options and expressed that she could not do this alone anymore. Uvena did not make any progress either, due to her taxi taking too long to show up.

Getting Help

Uvena hailed a taxi and got to Redrock HQ, but it had been an hour since the disappearance by the time she got there. Only Sioria and Jason were present, and Uvena was quick to inform them about what had happened. Jason tried to find an alternative explanation at first, but telling Uvena not to worry was not going to happen, and he eventually sprung into action.

They weighed their options and decided on two next steps to evaluate: Get Renala to try tracking down her omni-tool and searching for witnesses during Va'ynna's usual route to work. Victoria had contacted her crew, but without a clear direction, their search was fruitless.

Footage

Jason had Mendez go out to assist Victoria in the field, and together they started checking Va'ynna's usual path to work. They started with a convenience store around the middle of the route and went inside to ask if the employee behind the counter had seen or heard anything. She had heard some sounds of a scuffle and did agree to check the security camera.

The camera had a poor view of the street outside, but the footage did show an armored batarian outside of the store at the time, that the omni-tool was tossed out and that the sky car had a dark green color. It also showed a salarian coming along thirty minutes later to pick up the omni-tool, but they did not investigate that further at the time.

Mendez suspected the batarian's hardsuit as belonging to the security company that Renala encountered when trying to recover Uvena's car: Avoren Security. Jason asked Renala to dig up some information on them, but she did not see any way to confirm this, let alone prove it with their footage.

The car rental company had called off their deal with Avoren, but if they were behind this, then that company must have been involved too. That was what they thought, but Sioria going down there gained her no new insights into the company.

Jason reached out to Avoren Security's contact address and got no immediate help. He gave them thirty minutes to provide a meeting with Taro Avoren, but he ran out the clock on that without getting back to him. The contact person did hint that three active operators assigned to the debt collection had not reported, but could not provide any more information.
